Adopting a Bird

PARROT ADOPTION QUALIFICATIONS:

Are you interested in adopting a bird/parrot from A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue??

This info is very detailed.   A-Parrot's policy is to put everything in writing so that there are no misunderstandings between us.  If you feel you  qualify and agree to the info below, the next step is to email us to start your pre-determination email.  We hope to hear from you soon.   Laughing

Our birds are looking for good homes!  However, if you have contacted A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue, Inc. "price shopping or looking for a free or cheap parrot",  you have reached the wrong site.  All professional animal rescue organizations depend on client donations.  Our birds need to be fed and cared for prior to adoption.   Rescuing parrots is definitely expensive.  Parrot ownership can be expensive too.  Please expect to pay a reasonable donation for the bird of your choice.

Listed below  are A-Parrot's primary adoption requirements:

1)  Parrots can only be adopted out to experienced parrot owners.  (We do not classify a cockatiel, lovebird, keet, finch, or canary as a parrot.  Owning a conure may or may not qualify.)  You must have owned the same or similar species of parrot to  qualify for one of A-Parrot's rescues.

2)  There are 2-3  pre-adoption determination emails we need to send to prospective Adopters.  We would like to get to know you and your birds first.Laughing

3)  If you are interested in a parrot, quaker, conure, ringneck, or other small specialized bird species, you must be able to supply a recent proof receipt  that you own or have "lived with" one of the above parrot species.

The receipt must have your name and the species of parrot you own on it.   Pictures do not count as proofsA vet receipt especially qualifies.   Several other types of receipts apply as proofs.  Inquire.

4)  To adopt a Cockatoo, you will need to provide A-Parrot with a copy of a  receipt that you have owned a Cockatoo recently, or do own one now.    A-Parrot  feels strongly that Cockatoos do  NOT make good pets for first time parrot  parrot owners.

5)  Most parrots that we adopt out may be older, set in their ways, and may or may not be able to be tamed down, except by an experienced bird owner.  If you owned a parrot as a child, please contact us.  However, we "may" still require that you supply an ownership proof receipt in your own name.

6)  Sometimes we do get in some fairly tame and nice parrots,  but these are adopted out rather quickly.  First adoption priority is always given to someone who can supply us with a proof receipt of parrot ownership.

7) If you are interested in a cockatiel, finch, budgie, canary, or possibly a lovebird, A--Parrot will waive the proof receipt requirement.

8) Expect a small application fee (then we mail the application to you).  There are  reasonable donations per bird.  These details are explained in A-Parrot's last pre-determination email to you.    We do prefer emailing over phoning because of the great number of inquiries we receive daily.

9) You must be 21 years old or older to adopt a parrot from us.  We do not adopt out birds to children, for breeding purposes, or for "gifts".   We need to interview the potential owner of our rescue bird.  You must bring your driver's license when you make your appointment to visit the parrot of your choice (after your application has been approved by our Board of Directors).Laughing  Don't worry, A-Parrot has a quick review/ approval process.

10)  A-Parrot does not ship.  You must live within driving distance, close to the State of  Ohio.   A-Parrot does not adopt out parrots  to brokers or breeders.  A-Parrot  needs to  email  our pre-adoption determination  info to the actual Adopter.  The Adopter must pick up the bird in person and be able to sign the Adoption Contract later in person.

11)   A-Parrot does their best to adopt out only  "visually healthy"  birds.  However, all bird adoptions are on a  no guarantee, "as is" basis.  It is the Adopter's responsibility to get their new parrot vet checked when they get it home. If the bird was pre-vet checked and we get a copy of the receipt, you will get a copy.

12)  Our Adoption Contract  conditions are spelled out in our emails to help you decide if you want to proceed further.  If there is a delay on your part in your completing our adoption process, please understand that we  cannot "hold" birds for you.

13)  Disclaimer:  Others may be applying for the same bird you are.  We never know if an actual application will be returned to us, or when.  If your application has been approved but you  happen to miss out on your first choice, remember that more birds are always coming in.  It will just be a matter of scheduling your appointment to see the next bird of your choice.  A-Parrot reserves the right to match up birds with the most qualified Adopter we can find at the time. Not everyone may be approved to adopt a parrot from our organization.  We do hope you  qualify.  Laughing

14)  See our Photo Page for some of the birds that are available, or that have already been adopted out.

15)  The most  updated list of birds A-Parrot to A-Flamingo  Rescue has available is on Petfinder.com

   http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/OH662.html

(If this does not connect, please copy this address and use your internet browser.)

16)  Birds may or may not have come in with cages.  We will let you know if a cage is included.  If a parrot comes in with a proper sized cage, it stays with the bird.  If you do not want the cage, it is your option, but since the cage is free we cannot make an adoption donation reduction if you do not want the cage.  A-Parrot  has lots of other cages available, priced reasonably, in case you do need an extra cage too.   All cage fees help us to purchase more seed and pellets for the birds in our care.

17)  Our policies are subject to change at any time without notice.  All listed birds are subject to adoption at any time at A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's option.

18) After reading this web page in its entirety, if you feel you qualify and agree to A-Parrot  adoption policies so far, please copy this email address and email Fran at  aparrottoaflamingo@danworld.com   to start our pre-determination email process.  Our personal emails to you will explain more in detail.
